Storm Hannah put paid to CCRC racing on Saturday with winds in Hayling Bay gusting at 42knots. This made getting to the Fitting Out Supper a little difficult for some but they still made it. After some socialising and drinks we had presentations on the new results fleets, systems and points; Solent buoy changes; the VPRS Nationals; the club Cruise, and a new race tracking system being trialled. Then it was a splendid dinner provided by Hayling Island Sailing Club.
Next day saw the wind had dropped substantially and 12 boats turned out for the race. A rolling start had been decided upon the previous night to save a Race Officer having to anchor in what might have been challenging conditions. This start however had to be delayed due to a “rigging issue” on the lead boat. Once away the fleet stayed fairly close together until boats were shaking out reefs at different times as the wind eased further and the sun even made an appearance. All who took part finished in what turned out to be a good day for a sail and race.
